Freemasonry came to America through Europe, with England and Scotland being two distinguished locations of early Speculative Masonry. Christianity was the main religion in those regions during that time period. St. John the Baptist had long been associated with Freemasonry, extending back to references of St. John's Masons throughout medieval Europe during the time of Operative Masonry.

On December 27, 2025, Glen Park Lodge proudly hosted its traditional Feast of St. John Table Lodge—an annual observance rich in Masonic history and symbolism. This time-honored celebration honors St. John the Evangelist, one of the patron saints of Freemasonry, and serves as a reminder of the principles of brotherly love, fellowship, and moral reflection that unite the Craft.

Brother Paul Bearer was just about half-way through delivering the most eloquent recital of the Winding Staircase lecture that I had ever witnessed in my time as a Mason. I was mesmerized, his inflection carried on like the ancient cadence of monks chanting while they worked in perfect rhythm. I was hanging on every word that seemed to flow like a stream of honey. It was poetry, it was art, it was beauty.

The evening of October 29th, 2019 is burned into me in a way I still can’t quite explain. Being raised to the degree of a Master Mason wasn’t just a ceremony, it hit me somewhere deep. I remember going home afterward, staying up all night and trying to take it all in, feeling proud, humbled and honestly a little overwhelmed.
